Master list
Peregrine looked around the entry way of the newly remodeled condo. The walls were up and painted, but the room still needed a lot of work before it would be an acceptable room to entertain clients before he took them to the studio. It needed art. He pointed at a corner. “Kurt, that’s going to be your corner. I don’t want any workmen hitting your sculpture as they bring in supplies and take out paintings.”
Kurt nodded.
Peregrine opened the door that was hidden while the entry door had been open. The bathroom didn’t yet have a toilet or sink.
Emil walked over to the pass cupboard that led to the kitchen. “I can hardly believe this is the same place.”
Peregrine tugged Emil away. “Let’s all see it all together.”
Kurt stood in the doorway to the rest of the house and bowed. “After you.”
When the room was complete, this doorway and much of the wall it was on would be covered by shouji doors. Peregrine would line the wall with landscapes that he’d traded out by season and open whichever shouji door had the painting he wanted to see at that moment.
The doorway led to a little hall that looked at the moment like part of the kitchen. When the shouji doors along it were closed, he could take clients through the house without exposing either his bedroom on one side or his kitchen on the other.
Emil walked into the kitchen, his eyes wide. Kurt stepped up behind Peregrine and wrapped his arms around him. “You think he likes his new kitchen?”
Emil spun slowly. “I love it.”
He hugged both of them. “Thank you so much.”
He stepped back. “Let’s look in Kurt’s office.”
He opened that door. The room was just as green as Kurt had asked for. Peregrine took off his shoes and dug his toes into the thick carpet. “Maybe we should have a shelf to keep our shoes in the entry way.”
Emil grinned. “We can have house slippers during the winter.”
Kurt spread out his arms as he looked around. “Now it just needs furniture and my books.”
Peregrine wiped his finger across a shelf. “Let me clean everything first.”
Emil sighed. “We have a lot of work ahead of us.”
“But it’s ours.” Kurt grinned.
“Our bedroom!” Emil raced across the little hall. He threw open the door and ran towards the window. “Our bed should be here.”
He turned and raced to the corner. “Our fireplace!”
He spun in the little cubby. “Now we just need our furniture.”
Peregrine grabbed his arm as he walked past. “Not so fast.”
Once Emil got started rearranging furniture, he wouldn’t want to quit. And Peregrine would really like to at least wipe everything down before Emil filled the kitchen cupboards. He wanted to do something else first. He nodded at Kurt. Kurt set the basket on the floor and took out a blanket. He laid it out on the floor. Emil grabbed the hand soap and toilet paper and took it into the bathroom. He came out with a big smile. “I can’t wait until we can try out the shower.”
Peregrine pulled Emil to him. “We’ll need a shower once we set this place to rights.”
Emil giggled and tilted his head back. Kurt kissed him. They needed to christen their new place before they moved in.
--
Kurt carried another box into the kitchen. Emil grinned and pointed to a counter. “Give me a minute and I’ll help you move the table. We’ll put the pantry stuff there until Peregrine cleans it.”
Kurt wasn’t good with the cleaning or organizing part. He’d only ever done it once on his own. Emil and Peregrine had moved more often. The next box he moved was his books into his new office. They would be at this all night. They hadn’t even got the bed uncovered and Kurt really wanted to spend the night in his new room. But they had left most of their stuff at Keith’s including their bathroom stuff.
Mike would be by tomorrow with his van. Peregrine had worked hard during his week at Keith’s. He had six completed painting and three more mostly done. If they went back to Keith’s he might be able to finish them tomorrow. All but one was of Liam and Willow, so Mike wouldn’t be able to sell them, but he had made a place in a back storeroom at his gallery. He’d picked a date for Peregrine’s next show, with an area for his door paintings, one for his portraits, one for story pictures with Emil, Kurt and Peregrine, and one for ones of Willow and Liam. Peregrine was pretending he wasn’t happy about the show.
Kurt was sure he was despite the need to finish half a dozen more paintings before the end of the year.
When Emil called for him, Kurt helped with the table and chairs and then got the living room into shape while Emil and Peregrine finished the kitchen. He got three more boxes of books put away before they called him back out to help them with the bed.
They put the bed a few feet from the wall of windows and made it. Then Peregrine lay back on the bed. “We should sleep here.”
Emil dashed from the room and came back with shampoo and towels from the spare bedroom’s bathroom. “Let’s.”
Kurt grinned slowly. He would definitely vote with his men on this.
--
Emil woke up between Kurt and Peregrine with warm light on him. Once his men were awake, he wanted to try out the shower where they could work up an appetite and then he’d make them breakfast. Kurt’s hand ran down Emil hip. One lover awake. And Emil knew just what to do while waiting for Peregrine to wake up.
