Rewriting any story means changing it: moving scenes to better places, making sequences more logical, giving better motivations, fixing plot holes, weaving in dangling bits. I understand that. But one of the scary parts for me is how the characters change. Now the change can give to story more emotion impact and the characters more logical motivations, but it still scares me every time a character (no matter how two dimensional) goes from being an Ice Princess with a weakness for the super rich to a loving daughter who wants to give her single father the first vacation he's had since before she was born and a devoted sister to her quasi brother, wanting him to be the best he can be, and a hard working woman who wants the best for her family owned business. All without losing her Ice Princess persona (even while giving her dark skin) or changing her part in the story.

Colt fell in love with Lion hard (Gestures) long before he let his feelings get involved the first time. I keep wonder if it's going to work or if I'll be stuck rewriting his part again, but I've discovered that Colt motivation for playing along with being wooed by Lion makes a lot more sense if Colt is in love with Lion and wants him to be happy with his star (Python) even if Colt can't have him. It really will be a different story. And a longer one. I'm at 13.9k and only about one fifth in (the other whole story is 35k).

Is anyone else getting those spams with links as comments on lj? I heard on the radio a while ago that the way Google calculates "points" means that having a link placed (even in the comments) on a well viewed site, pushes that linked site towards the top of the page.  And I understand that spam blankets everything, but I don't see how adding their link to my lj posts (almost a dozen since noon yesterday) would help them at all. And really can't they be a little more original. Every single one of these is exactly the same 'I've got a huge crush on you' message.

Also can anyone think of a mama/papa/daddy equivalent of carrying-parent. That is the only think keeping me from posting part two of Wings. What do little Ravi and Draja call Kairava? Carcar? Caca? Cara? I'll post both a gender neutral and an all male pronoun version for those that have trouble reading GPNs. But as I will start working long holiday hours starting Wednesday, the sooner I can come up with a word the more likely the story will go up before January.

And for those who read Gestures, I'm almost 5k in to the second, as yet untitled, part. I haven't decided on the rating yet (I haven't written anything graphic in over a year, maybe two) but it will probably come down to whether I can find time to write when the kids aren't home.

I met my daughter’s new boyfriend on Halloween. He was dressed in a black suit with a red tie and my older son instantly recognized his costume (Agent 47, from a video game, I believe) even before he turned around and we spotted the barcode on the back of his shaved head.

He is six eight (203cm, the same height as Kurt). I know other men who are in the six six, six eight range. Most, like my uncle, are gangly or, like my ex-coworker’s son (who happens to be the same age as my daughter’s boyfriend and I had a few hours of sleepless worry that they might be one and the same), have gym muscles over a beanstalk figure. But Agent 47 fit his height. Even with my daughter (five five, 165cm and half his weight) standing in front of him, he didn’t look out-of-proportionally large.

Some days I really love my job. Today I had three customers that stood out. One guy came to get a single rose. He’d come in yesterday for one as well. When I gave my parting comment ‘Have a nice day’ he responded that he was working on it. I had to smile. I don’t mind helping someone get laid.

The second guy laid down almost eighty dollars without blinking. The huge arrangement of stargazers and pink roses was for his wife. He’d been meaning to buy her flowers for a while, so he picked an arrangement worth all the ones he would have bought. He planned to put this arrangement on the center of the kitchen island. She is five months pregnant and he wants her to be happy and stress-free.

The last guy wanted his single rose dressed up. Instead of the free clear plastic, he paid extra for shiny pink cellophane. Then he tried to pay. The resister wouldn’t take his credit card. He tried a couple of times, but it kept declining his tender. But he had enough change in his pocket. He paid for a six dollar rose with quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies. As I counted out the change, he repeated that he knew he had $10.15 on his card. When I was done, he had only thirty cents left in change. So he spent over one third of his money on a flower for his girl, which is romantic. Although I’m glad he’s not dating my daughter.

Although I only work two days this week (one of them tomorrow), I feel like my week is speeding by. I feel like I'm not getting anything done, but I have written a chapter plus of Harmonies, two of three parts of the second section of Trifecta, and 2k words of the second Wings story typed in. And I still have four hours before anyone gets home.

As I was working on a story where the two of the leads were eighteen and thirty-two, my daughter mentioned that she had a boyfriend. (I had kind of guessed this, the hickey on her neck was a big give away.)  I knew he had to be older than her because all the guys in her dance class over the summer were older. And I was pretty sure he was a guy from her dance class because this was only the second week of the new semester and the only hobby she has time for outside of school is the local dances on the weekends, which she'd been to pretty faithfully lately. And that these last few weeks, she'd always had a ride home.

So I asked his age. He's eleven years older than her. I'm not really freaked out, she's twenty after all, but I'm kind of weirded out. (he's closer to my age than hers.) But I probably shouldn't be because every story I'm currently working on except this one and Harmonies, the leads are at least that far apart in age.

When Lion returned, he sat beside Colt and tried his hand at the knot Colt was teaching the older children. Grandfather called him away. Lion came back a few minutes later and sat down as if nothing had happened. He showed Colt and the children a complicated knot. A woman called the children to work. They left the leather thongs they had been knotting. Colt collected all the ones he could reach and removed the knots.

Lion cleared his throat. “Horse mate?”

Colt, an interplanetary courier, gets a job to find his crush, Orion Santiago a young scientist and inventor who disappeared six years ago after someone else won an award with his admission. The planet Orion might just be on is about as primitive as people can be. No planes or cars or even buggies. Colt is going to have to walk every step, but he will find Orion. As long as he doesn't get distracted by the ones he meets along the way.

The other day an older man arrived at the Floral kiosk minutes before I was supposed to get off work when I was already running late. I sucked it up and greeted him warmly. He wanted balloons. I blew up two balloon bouquets (12 balloons total), which took a while. Then he looked through the cards while I did the last few things and then I rung him up and left twenty minutes late.

But I wasn’t annoyed because he told me his story and I love stories. This guy was planning to celebrate his partner’s fiftieth birthday by bringing balloons and wearing full drag to the airport to greet his partner as he got off the plane from New Orleans. The card he picked had a high heeled shoe on the front and said fabulous was like perfect only more fun. I hope they both had a good time.

Deresla II was a beautiful planet and the first in the solar system to be colonized. Most of the rain on the inhabited islands occurred during the hot season, so they were always green and fertile. Six centuries ago, the colonization ships had landed and taken off again to get the second half of the colonists, but then a plague hit Galgaie XII. Planets were locked down and planetary governments were more worried about saving their citizens than about people who had moved away.

This is what has kept me busy for a while. Well this and three short story that aren't quite what I want them to be. Whoever said that writing is the hard part must never have needed to edit.

Title: Gestures
Status: Part 1 of 10
Genre: science fiction, romance, slash
Rating: PG (13?)
Content: fresh air, bright sun, Gage, Miss Prim, food, exercise, sleep, a brush with the past, and a quick exit.
Length: about 3,500 words
Summary: Colton, interplanetary courier, gets a new assignment close to his heart.

Masterlist

Colt pulled off his helmet and gloves and ran his hand through his hair. Space was wonderful, but planet-side fresh air was always welcome. He waved a stevedore away. “I’ve got this.”

Colt popped opened the trunk that lay in the small hold of his planet skipper and fished out the messenger bag. The fist sized box inside was his cargo. His job was to carry it from the home office on Deresla III to the offices on Caberon IV. Colt was mostly an interplanetary courier. No matter how fast communication could travel, some things had to be shipped by hand. His interstellar trip was costing the clients big-time, but not as much as sending one of their own people aboard a cruise liner to get the package. With this trip Colt would pay off his little skipper.

Some people were smart and some were beautiful, but Colt had never heard of any other person who was both to Orion’s degree )

It give you some idea of what I've been doing when not writing another chapter of Harmonies or sequels to Mage Partners or Wings, I've got other things in the works.

Here is a pony rendition of Trinity: Phillip (or Canton I haven't decided), on his seventh anniversary, gives his boyfriend Ty permission to sleep with Damien (and only Damien). As long as Phillip can too.

Phillip (or Canton) is the guy in glasses. Ty, the ginger, wears a kilt and has lots of body hair (much to his men's delight). And Damien wears skin tight jeans and a button down shirt to work (I did the best I could).

------------

Also here is a snippet of Gestures a story that turned into a foursome without my permission. I've been working on for over two years. This is an almost random sample from page 28 of 87.

I've got more stuff, but none ready to share.
