Master list
Peregrine sat down with a sigh. He was glad to be home, but… “So we have to move into Rowe’s place?”
“We don’t have to.” Kurt smiled. “But if you want Emil to do your cooking, we’ll have to have a usable kitchen.”
“But,” said May, “the south side may not be able to be completed until the north side is remodeled unless you can live without a studio for a few weeks.”
Peregrine stood up. “Let me look.”
Thad rolled a blueprint out on the table.
Peregrine pointed at his new studio. “The only things I need done to my studio are a double siding door here,” he pointed to the wall between what was now the master bedroom and the living room. “And some changed to this area.” He pointed to the area that was now a bathroom and walk in closet.
Thad looked at the blueprint and back at Peregrine. “Is the studio that most important space?”
Thad looked at Kurt and then Emil. “Is that the place you want done first? Is it more important than a kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom?”
May opened her laptop. “What are you priorities? We can work around anything. Is the studio what you want done first?”
“Yes,” said Emil.
“I don’t need—”
“This is your house.” Thad picked up his iPad. “We will do things your way.”
“But it’s what we want.” Kurt put his hand on Peregrine’s back. “Peregrine’s studio first. Then Emil’s conservatory. Then my office, because the room I’m using now isn’t going to be changed, except maybe painted.”
Emil looked at the floor. Peregrine had enough time to convince him of being second later if Kurt was going to insist Peregrine be first. “Sounds good, but maybe we should wait and see what Thad and May have for us.”
May had just asked him how he spent his day in detail from the time he opened his eyes until he closed them at night.
“Really,” May grinned. “You three agree on lots of things. I don’t think we will have much trouble. Of course you could still surprise us and argue over which direction the washer and dryer should face.”
“Emil picks.” Kurt nodded at their lovely lover.
Emil shrugged. “As architects, you two might know best.”
Thad and May smiled. After they gathered their stuff us, Peregrine lead them to the door. As he opened it, they turned to him. “Thank you, Mr. Jones,” May shook his hand, “for thinking of us.”
“Peregrine, I don’t do formalities. And I’m happy to help. Anything else I can do, just let me know.”
“Thank you.” Thad shook his hand. “I look forward to working with you.”
“And I you.” These two were Greg’s most promising students in Peregrine’s opinion and even though they hadn’t got a lot of encouraging from their teachers, Peregrine was glad to see them making their way in the world. He waved when they turned at the elevator and then closed the door. He had men to attend.
--
Kurt looked down at his list. Emil wrapped his arms around him from the back. “I sense a frown.”
Kurt leaned back. “I need a lawyer. Even if Peregrine doesn’t have more than five clients a week that come into the building. I don’t want to lose the right to have anyone over we please.”
He also wanted a lawyer to help him with his will. If something happened to him, he wanted his men to get everything, especially when he owned half of each condo. He didn’t want his mother to force them out of their home. And she would too.
Maybe Zawadzki would know. Didn’t he say his uncle was an estate lawyer?
Peregrine stepped in front of Kurt. “Since…”
Kurt stuck his list in his pocket, pulled Emil into his arms, and grinned at Peregrine.
“Since we now have the whole other condo to explore…”
Kurt snatched a kiss. Emil pushed away. “Dinner first.”
Kurt’s belly grumbled in agreement. “And then?”
Peregrine grinned. “I’ll warm the lube.”
“Peregrine, get out the picnic blankets, will you?” Emil walked into the kitchen. “Even if we aren’t keeping the carpeting, I don’t want the contractors to know what we did.”
Kurt followed Peregrine into the laundry room. “What can I do?”
“We’ll need a timer.”
“Ok.”
“And a few extra blankets.” Peregrine set his finds on the couch and then went into the linen closet where he grabbed them. Peregrine dumped those on the others then he went into the bedroom. The lube bottle was half empty. “Is this enough?”
Kurt grinned. “Maybe another, just in case.”
Peregrine nodded. “Now go keep Emil company what I set things up.”
He pointed Kurt in the direction of the kitchen. “Call me when dinner is ready.”
Kurt watched him go, then leaned on the kitchen counter. “Beautiful.”
Emil ran water over rice noodles. “Where did Peregrine go?”
Kurt grinned towards the door. “He has plans.”
Emil grinned back. “Does he?”
Kurt stepped up behind Emil. “I have plans too.”
Emil hummed. “Do you?”
“Yes.”
“Do I have to wait until after dinner?”
He was the one that said so earlier, but maybe he wanted a sample. Kurt kissed him and lifted him onto the counter without any food on it and kissed him like he was Kurt’s oasis in the desert, which he was.
When Kurt stepped back, Emil’s eyes were bright and dark and his lips were swollen. He was Kurt’s. Kurt drank from him again. Emil’s hands found their way under Kurt’s waistband. His hands were wonderful. Kurt rode the high to its finale. Kurt leaned against the counter and slid to the floor. Emil licked his fingers and then his palm. Kurt closed his eyes. He heard the water running and the pop of a hot pan. He just needed a minute to recharge.
--
Emil stepped into Rowe’s living room and spun around. He liked the color of the hardwood floor here. It was slightly redder than in their living room. Although, really both were theirs now. Maybe after the remodel, the condo would feel that way.
Peregrine had laid blankets out on the floor. Arms wrapped around him. “We aren’t starting here.”
Emil turned in Peregrine’s arms. “You do have a plan.”
“We are going to start in my studio and then the walk-in closet.”
“Yeah.”
Kurt walked up behind Peregrine. “Don’t start without me.”
Peregrine turned. “Never.”
Kurt stole a kiss.
Peregrine stepped away from them. “Let me go check on the lube.”
Kurt scooped Emil up and spun him around. Emil laughed. He was so glad to be home.
“You don’t know how much I missed you.”
Emil leaned against Kurt’s chest. “I have some idea.”
“If I could, I’d keep you here forever.”
Emil grinned. “I might like that.”
Kurt nuzzled his ear. “Would you?”
Emil had conventions to go to several times a year and Kurt had a job to go to everyday, but… “I want to be the person you come home to.”
Kurt growled and lifted Emil off his feet. He nuzzled Emil shirt up and nibbled on Emil’s belly. Emil laughed, but as Kurt pressed Emil into the alcove beside the fireplace, Emil didn’t have enough breath to do more than gasp Kurt’s name. Kurt stripped Emil of his shorts and set his legs over Kurt’s shoulders. Kurt’s mouth was hot against Emil’s skin. Emil dug his fingers in Kurt’s hair.
Emil wanted to close his eyes and just feel, but Peregrine walked out of the bedroom and caught and held his gaze. Peregrine’s eyes were dark and half lidded, but they never let Emil go. And Peregrine never would.
