I went to a podiatrist today (this is about my injury at work). The clinic operates at 6 different centers. I gave them a day and they gave me a place. I checked Google. I could get there by bus with a little walking.
I checked the bus schedule and Google maps again. Then I went out. It wouldn't be that hard. I got on the bus, pretty sure I knew what to do. Luckily there were a few bus experts willing to bestow their knowledge on the rest of us. The stop I needed to walk to was the direction I'd thought. The bus driver told me how far. The bus map isn't that detailed. I hadn't thought the bus stop was that far.
I got off the second bus where I was supposed to and walked down the proper street. The street had a sidewalk on one side. Then a street with street lights and then no sidewalk on either side. I walked and walked and walked and came to a dead end sign. A helpful driver told me I was ten blocks too far. Oops.
I walked back, trying to find my cross street. It was the streetlight. The only sign with the street name was only visible when I walked back. The street was much smaller than the part of the street I was used to. I can't believe that I didn't turn around to hunt down a street sign.
I turned down the street and walked. I noticed the street numbers and gave my daughter an emergency phone call. Had I turned the wrong way? Or only gone too far? I'd gone too far. Three blocks back the way I'd come, I was at the doorstep (which was on the sidewalk, one reason I'd walk right by the building), with eight minutes to spare.
Getting back wasn't as much exercise but it was longer. The first bus top was in the sun and it was too hot to wear my hoody. I became very aware that I'd forgotten to sunscreen my shoulders. So instead of getting off in the sun and waiting in the sun for 20 minutes or less, I opted for shade. The wait was over 40 minutes. I also could have stayed on the bus and gotten off a mile from home. I would have been home earlier, but with a bigger chance of sunburn. (I can easily burn in 15 minutes. Fair skin is a pain.) The bus home was crowded. But I'm home at last.
My next appointment is only a block from where I work. I'm not sure which floor, second I'm guessing as the first floor is a medical clinic and much of the third is physical therapy. But at least I won't get lost.
My boss is out for the next three months for her back. Then she'll be out another three months for her neck. I don't even know whose working with me this week. I just had my two days off. Hopefully I'll have next Monday off and someone will actually be there. My two days off this week are dark days (meaning no one is working), but plants and arrangements still need to be taken care of. I hope nothing dies an early death due to lack of water or neglect.
We knew that my boss was leaving for months and when she was leaving for several weeks, but we just couldn't get things organized to cover the holes. The woman we were told to use is covering for her home store boss's vacation this week. The young person who helped out last Friday still has a week of school. The older woman who works part time is on vacation. And this week's schedule was lost, so we had to guess what hours I work. And I just remembered I have to go in early for the last day of school and make up little bouquets tomorrow for students/parents to give to teachers. This situation makes me tired just thinking about it.
