At my job each department gets hours depending on how much we sell, so sometimes I get told come in late or take a long lunch or not to come in at all. But last week, when the final hour count came in, we found out we could have used 40 more hours than we did (about 80). That’s how hard we worked last week. I’m exhausted.

And today, my first day off in a week, I woke up with a tremendous headache, so I probably won’t get much done.

I need to finish the most recent chapter of Harmonies, finish typing in the last 60+ pages of my space caveman story, write the end to a story of a guy whose dates are always interrupted, type in/edit Tony and Brighton’s Together side story, edit/add to the story of an assassin who gets caught up in the family he just shrunk by one, get the 100wordwars Steven/Seth stories in chronological order so I can figure out where to add more, type in the next Aksell/Micah installment, and edit the stories I have at S2B2 to put them on FP.

So as a small sample of what I’ve been up to, I thought I’d post snippets of the things I’ve been working on in the last week or so:

As yet untitled Space caveman story that became a foursome despite my best efforts

Colt told the story Grandmother had told him what seemed like ages ago. He told it once for Orion, then again for Python and his other listeners.

“And I’m the star?”

“You are. I didn’t know what you were called here.”

Orion smiled. “The name is as good as any. You are the man, so who is the shell he fails to heed?”

Lion, who was back, wrapped his arms around his legs and set his chin on his knees.

Orion nodded. “I see.”

“Lion is from a village where men can’t mate with men.” Colt repeated that for his other listeners. “Python wooed Lion. Lion’s grandfather was against it.”

The villager’s shook their heads. Colt explained his arrival and Grandfather confirming that Colt was leaving before favoring Colt. When Colt spoke too long in one language the people or person who didn’t understand got restless. By the time he told about the flowers he had his cues down and his audience’s rapt attention. He told of Lion and Python’s deceit and of their journey and the giant cat and seeing Orion for the first time.

Orion wrapped his arms around Colt. “You are too nice. If Lion can’t have his star, Python, he’ll be content with you, a beautiful shell.”

“But I am a shell who will fly away. Loving me will only hurt him.”

“Words Horse,” Python said.

Colt bit down his embarrassment and repeated the exchange. He did not look at Lion. He did not want to meet his eye.

The women clucked and cooed about how Lion seemed a nice boy and of course he would try to hold onto the one his Grandfather liked to keep both from slipping through his fingers.

A Leaf Upon the Wind is about being at the right place at the right time, an assassin falls for the brother of the king he offed. This goes with the short The King's New Bride that I posted years ago.

But he slipped his hands behind Sebastian’s neck and pulled him close enough to kiss. Talon smiled at the man’s gasp and threw himself into kissing, glad that Sebastian’s breath smelled so good. His body smelled wonderful as well. Talon’s body reacted. Tonight he would enjoy himself.

If he had to, he could kill Sebastian later.

The Perfect Date is a side story of Harmonies where Diemen and Pavel's dates keep being interrupted

Diemen squared his shoulders and opened the door to the coffee shop. He’d met Pavel for coffee before and although sitting across the table from the hottest guy imaginable made Diemen want to date Pavel more than ever, something Pavel had said last time left a foul taste in Diemen’s mouth.

Was Pavel still living with his ex?

The Heart of the Matter or More than Skin Deep (I can’t decide) is about a transboy who didn’t practice safe enough sex. Ivory (from Harmonies) plays a roll.

Jesse looked up at the clock as he calculated back to August seventeenth. Three months and five days. He pulled out his school planner and flipped to the calendar. One day shy of fourteen weeks.

Forty weeks from August seventeenth was the end of May. Not that he had any real reason to note that.

He looked up and met Krispin Barlow’s gaze and looked back at his desk, his stomach roiling.

His queasiness each morning must be a weird kind of flu. He had nothing to worry about.

Untiltled Tony/ Brighton story

“… Victor won’t be back until late. He’s volunteering to help one of the Heikes cousins move.”

That was just an excuse to spend more time with his underage admirer.

“And your dad and I are going to a movie.” Mom set her hand on the table near Brighton. “Brighton dear, will you stay long enough for us to get back? We are going to the seven ten showing because the next one doesn’t get out until almost eleven.”

Tony’s parents weren’t night owls, unlike Vic’s parents.

Mom turned to Dad. “How long do we have?”

“Two minutes, give or take.”

“Eep. I better hurry.” Mom rushed around and Dad watched her like he could do it all day.

Brighton took Tony’s hand. “Does this mean we’ll be alone?”

Tony grinned.

Mom rushed in. “Have a good time. Don’t do the dishes. I’m letting them soak. And Tony dear,” she kissed his cheek, “don’t let him leave. Do you hear me?”

Then she kissed Brighton’s cheek too. “Have fun.”

And seconds later the house was empty except for them.

“She didn’t just tell us to do what it sounded like, did she?”

Tony blushed.

Freestyle Aksell meets Micah’s brothers

Micah shot a glance over his shoulder and sat up straighter. “In coming.”

“Oh, it is you,” said the tall fake blond with an equally fake smile. “Did you come to see the snow?”

He looked at Aksell for the first time. “And you must be his little nurse. Don’t let him get too cold.”

Now Aksell freely admitted he was short and, even though he wasn’t in pediatrics like he wanted, he was proud to be a nurse, but he was sure the man hadn’t meant it like that.

Wings A member of a xenophobic single gender race has twins by an man who is the mixture of all the other races and not just, like ne says, to give nir babies wings

Ravij came back one evening and in nir cute little voice told nir darling sibling that once Chandraja was weaned Kairava would get rid of nem, that Chandraja wasn’t wanted and wasn’t loved by anyone.

Chandraja burst into tears. Ne wasn’t the only one with a broken heart. Kairava cuddled nir kitten until nir purrs said ne was happy again. And then Kairava packed their bag. They would need to leave before dawn or someone — perhaps the person who had fed Ravij such bile— would keep Kairava from taking Ravij out of the village.

Prompt: # 25 sneaky, quiet, crash from 100wordwars. Once I’m done with this, I can go on to write Christmas at the Ito-Parkers.

Seth closed the front door as noiselessly as he could. He wanted his and Steven’s rare night out to continue in their room, not end with wide-wake children who needed to be soothed.

Steven’s arms came around him. Seth stopped and looked where Steven was pointing. Those sneaky kids. Seth had almost walked into a rope, which would have dumped an open tin of dominoes off the table with a crash.

Seth backed up and walked around the other side of the table and they made it to their room with the door locked while the house stayed silent.

And I came across this website recently. So now I can do this
