Summary: Snowboarding is one of Micah’s hobbies that Aksell is good at. Too bad they are interrupted.

Masterlist

Aksell’s heart beat quickly and he shuddered. He could attribute the former to exercise and the latter to the ice and snow outside the lodge, but he felt like they were from fear and anticipation. Micah wanted him to snowboard down the expect slope.

Aksell would rather watch Micah snowboard than go down even the beginner’s slope. He just liked to watch Micah whether he was snowboarding, paragliding, or rock climbing. Also Aksell would rather have two feet on the ground. He preferred to get his highs in Micah’s arms.

But Micah wanted Aksell up there beside him and Aksell had the experience to board the expert slope because his brothers had insisted on it. If he could race down the side of the mountain for Finn and Sawyer, he could do it for Micah.

Micah grinned as he rolled up to the table with two hot chocolates. Aksell took his with a kiss and warmed his hands on the hot cup.

“Get nice and warm.” Micah set his hand on Aksell’s. “Then we’ll go back out.

Aksell wanted to ask for a pass. He hated looking down from the top. But he could swallow his fear. He’d been snowboarding every year since Finn turned twelve, but he still wasn’t comfortable with anything but the easy slopes.

A group of people strode into the lodge, tall and proud as if they owned the place. They were all good looking in a generic way. Aksell preferred his beauty to have personality. He smiled at Micah. His man was much better looking than these guys.

“Marcel,” said a blonde woman in a voice louder than the mummer of a hundred other people. “Isn’t that your brother?”

“Of course not. What would he be doing here?” Marcel turned around at the woman’s urging and swept his eyes across the room.

Another man, this one dark haired, turned and stared at Aksell’s table and then took a step towards them. Marcel rolled his eyes. “Now you’ve done it. Myles is going to make us go talk to him.”

Micah stiffened, shot a glance over the back of his chair, and straighten his shoulders with a puffed out breath. “In coming.”

Aksell had seen Micah’s reactions to friends and strangers from all walks of life. He had never looked this unhappy to see anyone before.

“Oh, it is you.” Marcel wore a smile as fake as his bleach blond hair. “Did you come to play in the snow?”

He turned to Aksell. “You must be his little nurse. Don’t let him catch a cold.”

Now Aksell freely admitted he was short and he was proud to be a nurse even if he wasn’t yet in pediatrics like he wanted, but he was sure the man hadn’t meant it like that.

He stood up. He was still towered over, but those extra inches helped his ego. Too bad Micah couldn’t do the same. Aksell put out his hand. “Aksell Rose.”

He hated introducing himself. His name was so embarrassing, but he refused to blush and make these people think he was ashamed of Micah. “I’m a nurse, but not his nurse unless his is also my software engineer.”

He waited a beat for the man to have some manners. The dark haired man took Aksell’s hand. “Myles Winter. Micah is my brother.”

“Nice to meet you. I’m his boyfriend. You probably haven’t heard of me either.” Aksell grinned at Micah to show he had no hard feelings over this.

“Micah has a boyfriend?” Marcel scowled. “Why wasn’t I told? Is that even legal?”

Micah rolled his eyes. “You weren’t on the mailing list.”

Aksell laughed. Micah grinned at him in return.

Marcel crossed his arms. “What does that mean?”

Myles sighed. “That means you’re being an asshat again. Go get your tags.”

He waited until Marcel and the lady attached to his arm walked away and then he turned to Aksell. “Can Micah go up the mountain?”

Now, Aksell liked that Myles had vastly more social skills than Marcel, but this was not treating Micah like an equal. Aksell sat down and gestured to the other chairs at the table. Myles and his female companion sat down.

Aksell pick up his hot chocolate. “We have been on the mountain all morning. We are just warming up before we go back out.”

He wasn’t going to bring up his trepidations.

“You should really watch Micah snowboard. He’s really good.”

Myles smiled like he didn’t believe Aksell, but he was going to let Aksell believe what he wanted to.

They were in for a surprise. Aksell stood up. “Micah, I’m ready when you are.”

Micah grinned. “I’m always ready.”

They left before Marcel returned.

The view from the top was spectacular and so was Micah as he boarded down. A few seconds down the slope, adrenaline eclipsed Aksell’s fear. He could do anything.

At the bottom Micah grinned, showing off the tip of his tongue. “Fun?”

“Yes! Let’s do it again.”

Micah laughed. “Your brothers were right.”

“About what?”

“That if I didn’t let you say no, you’d enjoy yourself immensely.”

Aksell grinned. “Should you really be giving away your plan so soon?”

“Do you want to race this time?”

Aksell didn’t really. He’d rather board with someone than against them, but he nodded because Micah was a competitive guy.

And he was glad only a little way into the race. Myles et al were causing a backup. Some of them weren’t the experts they thought they were. After the group behind Myles and company complained several times, most of the group pulled off to the side.

Then that second group showed what good sports they were by letting Micah pass.

Aksell stopped by Myles. “Isn’t Micah something?”

Just then Micah passed Marcel as if Marcel were standing still.

Aksell grinned at the group and then continued down the hill following the best boyfriend in the world.
